The Case
Against 1080

1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is a systemic poison used across Australia for so-called pest management. The scientific and ethical case against it is clear — but government action requires public pressure.

No known antidote. 1080 is a colourless, tasteless and odourless toxin. There is no treatment for poisoning — it causes a prolonged and agonising death in affected animals.

Banned nearly everywhere else in the world. Australia remains one of the few countries still using 1080 at scale. It has been prohibited in most jurisdictions due to its indiscriminate and inhumane nature.

Kills native wildlife. 1080 is indiscriminate — it kills any animal that ingests it, including native species such as quolls, wombats, echidnas, and birds of prey that consume contaminated carcasses.

Kills companion animals. Dogs are particularly sensitive to 1080. Bait programs regularly kill pets whose owners are unaware of nearby poison operations.

"Personalised emails get attention. Make sure you use your own words for the key messages — the template is a starting point, not a script."
