Yathong Nature Reserve

Yathong Nature Reserve is one of the largest and most ecologically significant protected areas in New South Wales, located about 130 km south of Cobar in the state’s central-west. Established in 1971 and covering over 115,000 hectares, Yathong is internationally important for birds, forming part of the Central NSW Mallee Important Bird Area. At least 162 bird species have been recorded, including the endangered species. The reserve also supports species such as the short-beaked echidna, brush-tailed rock-wallaby, yellow-bellied sheathtail-bat, and all three major kangaroo species (eastern grey, western grey, and red kangaroo)
The baiting activities undertaken at Yathong Nature Reserve are managed by the Dubbo office of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
